In a bold move, Montana Governor Greg Gianforte may have pissed off a lot of Montanians by signing a bill that bans TikTok in the state. Citing concerns about personal data security leaks to the Communist Party, Gianforte has positioned Montana as the first state to officially be so butthurt by an app its outright banned it.
Montana Governor took to Twitter to announce his decision, proudly stating that Montana is protecting its residents' personal and private data from the clutches of the Chinese Commies by signing the bill, Montana becomes the first state to ban TikTok, will other states follow suit, or is Montana simply be a Lone Ranger in their imaginary fight for digital privacy.
While the ban aims to address security concerns surrounding TikTok's ties to China, TikTok, owned by China based company ByteDance, has long been under attack in the public eye. However, no concrete evidence has been presented to support these fears. It's almost as if Montana is infringing on its citizens autonomy and limiting what media they intake, seems pretty communist to me.
Violators, including app stores hosting TikTok, may face fines of up to $10,000 per day. TikTok has vowed to defend the rights of its Montana users and will likely fight the law in court. As the legal battle unfolds, the nation will be watching to see what this means for the rest of the country in the following months.
Governor Gianforte's decision has ignited debates about security, free speech, and the role of state governments in regulating social media platforms. With TikTok's future in Montana and maybe the rest of the United States hanging in the balance, remember one thing....follow my other socials @beerleagueathletic on IG & TikTok, as well as website linked on my IG.
